چکیده

Hypertext is a simple concept for organizing information into a graph structure of linked container objects. This paper examines issues involved in applying hyper-text concepts to the integration of heterogeneous , autonomous software repositories, and presents a solution called the Distributed Hypertext System (DHT). Based on a hy-pertext data model and client-server architecture , DHT features powerful modeling capabilities , integration of heterogeneous, pre-existing repositories, update with concur-rency control, and full local autonomy.

Multi-Granularity Locks in an Object-Oriented Database

Multi-granularity locking is widely accepted today as an important performance booster for concurrency control in relational databases. In this paper, we address the issues that arise in applying the same idea to an object-oriented database. First, with encapsulated implementations providing interfaces to objects, it is both possible and beneecial to deene connict relationships between pairs of...

A Performance Study of Locking Granularity in Shared-Nothing Parallel Database Systems

Locking granularity refers to the size of a lockable data unit, called a "granule", in a database system. Fine granularity improves system performance by increasing concurrency level but it also increases lock management overhead. Coarse granularity, on the other hand, sacrifices system performance but lowers the lock management cost. This paper explores the impact of granule size on performanc...

Concurrency Control in Transactional Drago

The granularity of concurrency control has a big impact on the performance of transactional systems. Concurrency control granularity and data granularity (data size) are usually the same. The e ect of this coupling is that if a coarse granularity is used, the overhead of data access (number of disk accesses) is reduced, but also the degree of concurrency. On the other hand, if a ne granularity ...

Locking Granularity in Multiprocessor Database Systems

Locking is a common approach to solve integrity problems that arise from multiple concurrent accesses to a database system. Locking granularity refers to the size of a lockable data unit, called a "granule", in a database system. Fine granularity improves system performance by increasing concurrency level but it also increases lock management overhead. Coarse granularity, on the other hand, sac...

Provenance in collection-oriented scientific workflows

We describe a provenance model tailored to scientific workflows based on the CollectionOriented Modeling and Design paradigm. Our implementation within the Kepler scientific workflow system captures the dependencies of data and collection creation events on preexisting data and collections, and embeds these provenance records within the data stream. A provenance query engine operates on self-co...
